All Things Guppy!
Guppies
The Guppy program is the preparatory team, where children learn how to become competitive swimmers. The purpose of Guppies is to prepare kids for 'Big Kid Swim Team' and introduce young kids to the sport of swimming in much the same way that Tee Ball introduces little kids to baseball or softball. Our goal is for these little ones to have a great time and have fun in the water as they begin to learn the basic strokes of swim!
Guppies are registered as non-competitive swimmers and their skill level is to the point where they are ready to learn the basic strokes. They are typically 4-6 years old, comfortable swimming short distances, able to put their face in the water, and able to be in the water without a parent or guardian. We ask that all guppies be toilet trained (out of swim diapers). If you don't feel that your child is ready for this level, we recommend the private lessons with one of our coaches, or lessons at the YMCA, Kroc Center, or other local aquatics centers.
We try to provide an older 'Big Kid' helper for each guppy, but since these are also volunteers, it may be necessary for you to provide your own helper during practice. Guppy practices will be conducted by an assistant swim coach, along with youth volunteers.
If you have any other questions about the Guppies, please feel free to reach out to us.
